My wife really doesn't like the cold. I can't stand the heat. You might say that our household in western Montana is uncomfortable with the weather all year long! On these hot days, it gets almost comical. I often hide out and work from our basement for a chance at cool air in our non-airconditioned house on these hot summer days. At the same, my wife will go outside to soak up every scorching sun ray she can.
The paradox of one who loves the sun marrying one who loves the snow mirrors many of the paradoxes in our lives of faith. From the moment everything was created from nothing, to the moment fullness became fallenness, to the moment the immortal became mortal, and, finally, when death became resurrection, the Christian faith is full of paradox. It can be quite confusing and even comical at times. Yet, it can also bring great hope. Whenever you experience pain, loss, isolation, hurt, despair, or brokenness, the Way of God reassures us that these experiences are pardoxically accompanied by comfort, love, connection, healing, hope, and wholeness. May you be blessed by paradox.
