Hello! My name is Rev. Seth Nelson, and I am finally launching my very own author website and blog! If you know me, you might be thinking, "Seth, you published your book last September. Why are you just now publishing an author site?" Great question! Since you know me, you also know that it was a busy fall for me. My daughter was born in November, I published The Church Unknown when we were in the midst of putting in a new sewer pump system for our church and parsonage, and I was busy with quite a few other projects around the church and Ronan. After finishing the writing, editing and publishing process on my book, I did not seem to have much creative energy left to put into publishing a website. Now, though, I have had a few months to collect myself and refocus my energy so that I am better able to start new creative projects!
For those of you who don't know me, you might be more interested in hearing about my purpose for creating this website and why readers would be inclined to share it with others down the road. What do I envision as the purpose of this author site? Well, I am planning on writing a weekly blog that I will publish right here! There are many topics and questions that are worth spending time thinking and writing about when it comes to what God is doing in our world right now. The church is at a crossroads with an unknown future ahead of it. Many pastors and churches get discouraged when they think about what the future holds for our communities of faith in the United States and elsewhere in the world. There are many facts and figures that do not look good for the church of tomorrow. Part of the challenge for church-going Christians trying to lead in these uncertain times is that few people seemed equipped or knowledgeable on how to deal with the real problems that we are facing. Many of us are unprepared to lead congregations through these times because we are in uncharted territory. The church is living through uncertain times and we have not yet figured out how to live as communities of faith into the future. As with any process of discovering new ways of doing things and new ways of problem solving, the best place to start is by having a conversation about not only the problems that we are facing, but also the opportunities that God is giving us through the challenges we face. I am planning to contribute to the conversation in various forms on a weekly basis. So, I invite you to follow my writings here in this blog space! If you like what I have to say, share it on Facebook, or Twitter. If you think your friends or family would be interested in reading what I have to say, invite them to check out this website and blog. It is always good to have more people in on the conversation. Feel free to email me with any questions or comments! I always love hearing from people! Enjoy! In Christ, Rev. Seth Nelson
